Move – The Four-Letter Word

When someone hears the word “move” they often cringe and their mind immediately goes to thinking about all of the planning, coordinating, lifting, cleaning and the endless tasks that go along with preparing for a move. Add the emotions that come along with leaving your home and moving to a place that you’re not familiar with and you surely may not feel warm and fuzzy. The bottom line is that this four-letter word often does not make anyone feel very good, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Here’s why,

Moving is an adventure.

Have the spirit of discovery and adventure. If you are moving to a new condo from your home of many years be sure to check out the amenities – the swimming pool, card/game room or exercise center. Then make a plan to use them. If you’re moving into an active adult community or an assisted living community, be sure to check out all of the group activities – men’s and women’s groups, educational seminars, exercise classes and outings to theatre and other areas of interest. No matter where you’re moving, be adventurous and try new things.

What are you waiting for? Be adventurous now! Think about all of the time you spend mowing the grass, fixing a leaky faucet, shoveling the sidewalk and so much more. You will now have that time to do what you want and enjoy. Moving to a community that has support to handle these chores and upkeep for you allows you to free up your time. You won’t be bogged down with the upkeep of your home so if you like to spend a lot of time reading, you can join a book club and not feel guilty about it.

Don’t let the fear of change deter you from your adventure. Change can be good in this instance giving you an opportunity to meet new people and to see and experience new things. Although you will be moving from your house you will be bringing your “home” with you! We’re sure you’re thinking if you move you have to get use to a completely different environment and that things won’t be the same. Well, we’re here to tell you that this is not true. To ease your transition and make your new place truly your “home” TAD will recreate your living space so that you have the items you use most often back where they should be on your bedside table when you awake in the morning or on the end table next to your favorite chair when you are watching TV. When you wake in the morning you can read your morning paper and drink your coffee just like you always do.

It is actually a good day.
