Signs That You Are Ready To Move
Have you ever stopped to think about how life just seems to move faster and faster each passing year? It feels like it was just yesterday that you were moving into your home with your young and expanding family. Years later they are all grown and have moved out. And here you are still in your large home of many years. You wake up one day and 40 years have passed by. Where did the time go? Now that you are thinking about how much things have changed and how fast time has gone by, it’s a good time to start thinking about one of life’s biggest decisions: a move.
You’re in-between surviving and living.
Most of us have our daily routine that we have become very comfortable with. But for some this routine has led to a life of isolation. With possible mobility issues, not being able to drive or get around as easily as in the past, aging adults find themselves alone a large part of the day. Nutrition, upkeep of the house and activities of daily living can become a challenge. Isolation, as a result of friends and family having moved away, can lead to depression and can make the most basic chores of daily living difficult.
Interaction amongst friends and family and peers provides a more stimulating environment. Being a part of a community brings purpose back in to people’s lives. Everyone should strive for a purposeful life so that there is enjoyment with each day. You want to live, not just survive.
Do you wake up each day looking forward to what the world has planned?
Maybe now it is time to consider a change. Maybe now it is time to consider moving to a new community surrounded with the support and companionship of others.
An active adult or senior community can provide a lifestyle that offers the opportunity to enjoying activities and the company of others. Take part in an art class or exercise class. Join a men’s group or book club. Do you like to play cards or go to the theatre? Volunteer on a committee? How wonderful to be able to dine in the company of friends every evening instead of eating alone. And if you desire a quiet night alone you can do that but never have to! Finding your purpose again will make you feel like you are living and not just surviving.
Know thyself! Has your vision declined and you are still driving? Have the stairs become challenging and put you at an increased risk of falling? Has the housekeeping and home maintenance become overwhelming? Are your loved ones expressing their concerns about your safety with them so far away? Take control of your life and make decisions and changes now so that you can continue to enjoy life to its fullest. Each day is a gift, so unwrap it and enjoy it and experience new things.
Active adult and senior living communities offer a wide range of support so that you can continue to enjoy each day. A life with minimal or no yard work, limited cooking and housekeeping will open up opportunities for you to meet new friends, travel and enjoy the things you always wanted to do but never had time to do. And when the kids call and say “Mom I can never reach you on the phone!!” it will be because you are out and about having the time of your life!
